    • IBM, which has been putting a lot of emphasis on its cloud services and infrastructure lately, today announced that it is opening four new data centers in the United States.
    • These new facilities — two in Dallas, Texas and two in Washington, DC — bring IBM’s total number of data centers for its cloud to 55.
    • In the U.S., IBM not operates 22 data centers.
    • As IBM noted in its quarterly earnings release in April, revenue from its cloud services was up 33 percent in the last quarter, with its total cloud revenue hitting $14.6 billion over the last 12 months.
    • So while we don’t often talk about IBM when we talk about the major public clouds (think Amazon, Google and Microsoft), it’s definitely a major player in this business.

    • No, native advertising humors me when it becomes obvious just how difficult it was for a company to strike the right balance.

    • A ‘lunar base’ is a phrase previously used mostly by Bond villains, but the Chinese and European space agencies are discussing creating exactly that in a new collaborative effort.
    • The discussions were confirmed by the ESA’s Pal Hvistendahl, speaking to Bloomberg on Wednesday, and involve working together to build a humanoccupied “moon village” from which both agencies can potentially launch Mars missions, conduct research, and possibly explore commercial mining and tourism projects.
    • China’s upcoming projects in space include a mission to collect samples from the moon via an uncrewed craft by the end of this year, and to also launch an exploratory mission to the far side of the moon next year, with the similar aim of returning samples for study.
    • The ESA’s collaboration with China thus far include participating in the study of those returned samples, and potentially sending a European astronaut to the Chinese space station (which is currently unoccupied) at some future date.
    • These plans aren’t so far along that there’s any anticipated timeline for when a moon outpost may be established and operational, but it’s an interesting new development in the ongoing international space race.

    • The Note 7 may be the butt of every bad joke right now, but ignoring it altogether leaves a huge gap in the history of Samsung's design language.
    • Many of the design traits that make the Galaxy S8+ — the company's latest bigscreened superphone — so great, can be traced back to its explosively flawed predecessor.
    • The same is true on the software side, with the Note 7 debuting the "Grace" UX — a significantly refined interface that paved the way for the clean lines, rounded rectangles and brilliant whites we see on the S8+.
    • And as the last Samsung flagship to feature traditional physical home keys and a 16:9 display, it's an interesting stepping stone between the old and the new.
    • Check out our video comparison above, as Russell takes a look at Samsung's most infamous phone next to its latest and greatest.

    • Today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe Mercedes 300 CE is a car you might have forgotten ever existed.
    • Remarkably, these cars were Mercedes’ first fourplace convertible since the 1971 280SE. They were heavily reengineered for convertible duty with substantially strengthened floors, door pillars and windshield frames.
    • Fun fact, in the John Grisham book, the car’s a BMW. That all makes this 1993 Mercedes 300CE convertible an intriguing proposition.
    • That price is $7,700 which if you check around is just a little more than half of what many 300CEs are asking.
    • With that in mind, what’s your vote on this ’93 Convertible and that $7,700 price?

    • Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May speaks at the Brackla community centre, in Bridgend Wales, April 25, 2017.
    • REUTERS/Rebecca Naden LONDON British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday that old age pension payments would continue to rise if her party wins a June 8 election, but avoided renewing a pledge made by her predecessor that mandates a minimum 2.5 percent annual rise.
    • "I am clear that under a Conservative government pensioner incomes would continue to increase," May told parliament, when asked if she would recommit to the triple lock.
    • May's finance minister Philip Hammond last week said the issue of pensioner poverty has been fixed, heightening speculation that the triplelock policy could be ditched in the upcoming manifesto.
    • The current policy was criticized by a crossparty committee of lawmakers who said it was "inherently unsustainable" and unfair on younger generations.

    • Despite not having a parliamentary mandate to take military action in Syria, then Prime Minister David Cameron told lawmakers at the time that Khan had been targeted and killed in a precision Royal Air Force drone strike.
    • It was the first time Britain is known to have conducted a lethal drone strike against one of its own citizens abroad outside a traditional theater of war.
    • For the strike to be justified under the UN Charter, the strike must be a necessary and proportionate response to an armed attack which is deemed imminent.
    • However, the lawmakers said that they were unable to assess if this was the case, as they were denied a look at a key governmental submission.
    • "This failure to provide what we consider to be relevant documents is profoundly disappointing," said Dominic Grieve, the chair of a committee of lawmakers which published its report into UK lethal drone strikes in Syria.
